Major political parties of developing states express support for unifying role of EPRDF

 Bahirdar ,December 22,2005 (WIC) - The major political parties of the five developing states have expressed their support for the efforts being exerted by the EPRDF to create a society with strong economic,social and political bondage within the existing federal and democratic framework.

The Somali Peoples Democratic Party (SPDP) , Afar National Democratic Party (ANDP) ,Harari National League (HNL), Benshangul Gumuz Peoples Democratic Unity Front (BGPDUF) and the Gambella Peoples Democratic Movement (GPDM) voiced their support here yesterday at the ongoing conference marking the silver jubilee of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM).

Representative of SPDP said favorable conditions are created for nations and nationalities to strengthen their unity under the federal system of the country based on equality.

The party, however, vehemently condemned chauvinists and narrow nationalists who aspire to overthrow the unity ensured by the struggle of the peoples of Ethiopia and called for vigilant struggle against those quarters.

Representative of APDP on his part said that the party is committed to strengthen its support for the creation of society based on equality and fraternity.

ANDP believes that development cooperation with other regional states is vital to further boost the benefits of pastoralists in Afar,the representative said, adding that the public would contribute its share to the national unity that is believed to address the issue of equal opportunity for development ensured by the constitution.

Representative of the Harari National League on his part said the priorities of the League would be protecting the constitution and defending the activities of anti-peace elements as well as vigorously executing development strategies through strengthening federalism, national unity, cooperation among regions in capacity building, development and good governance endeavors as well as fighting poverty.

Also on the occasion, representative of the Gambella Peoples Democratic Movement stated that the people in Gambella have been working in unison with other nations and nationalities in strengthening a democratic Ethiopia.

Speaking on his part, representative of the Benshangu-Gumuz Peoples Democratic Unity Front stated that the people in Benshangul-Gumuz have been working in unison with other nations and nationalities in strengthening unity and building a democratic Ethiopia.
