Harari
state boosts agricultural produces by 54 percent |
| Harar, December 30,2005 (WIC)- The
Harari state Agriculture and Rural Development Bureau said over 100,000
quintals of produce is expected this harvest season exceeding the amount
collected last year during same period by 54 percent.
Bureau Head Abdulkader Adem told WIC today that the harvest is being collected from the 12,490 hectares of land covered with various cereals.
The increase is attributable to the better rain fall distribution, supply of select seeds and other inputs as well as the training of farmers on agricultural techniques,he added.
Of the expected 103,000 quintals, 55 percent is sorghum and the remaining peanut,maize, wheat and other cereal crops, the Head said, adding that efforts are also underway to further boost harvest during the current production year and ensure food security of the peasantry. |
