Association allots over 3mln birr to curb socio-economic problems in Harari state |

2006 (WIC) - The Harari Relief and Development Association said it has allotted 3.5 million birr this year in bid to address the socio-economic problems of the state and contribute to the development endeavors underway. Acting General Manager of the association, Abdurahman Abdulahi Qella told WIC that the association has allotted the stated fund to engage in health,education and environmental protection works as well as curbing drinking water problem and preventing harmful traditional practices. The association has handed over more than one million birr it raised to the regional Water Development Bureau to help it in renovating water facilities and constructing new ones. Abdurahman said it would also renovate the over 150-years-old school in the state and a kindergarten. It will also build four libraries and laboratories. In the area of HIV/AIDS prevention, the association plans to carry out sensitization works in cooperation with Pact Ethiopia and the state HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office by involving 200 Idirs and youth clubs. According to Abdurahman, the association has last year carried out the deepening of two water wells and development of a spring with the technical support it obtained from USAID. |
