Ethiopian-born investor to establish care center for PLwHA, orphans

Harrar, April 29, 2006 (WIC) - An Ethiopian-born American investor, Sebri Umer,said he would soon establish a center with an outlay of over 15 million birr to provide care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS in Harrar town.

Speaking at the conclusion of a five-day training organized for health professionals drawn from governmental and Non-governmental organizations by Yimaj Hospital, the Ethiopian-born owner of the hospital said the center to formed will provide care for bed ridden HIV/AIDS patients and orphans.

He said the center will be constructed in the compound of the hospital. Sebri said his hospital has currently sponsored second-round training for workers of the hospital and health workers engaged in HIV prevention activities in the town by health experts from United States.

The investor added that adequate preparations have already been made to finalize the construction of the center within a short period,and when the center goes operational it will start rendering services by initially admitting 325 patients.

Sebri said the task of preventing the spread of HIV /AIDS is not left only for the government and urged other investors to follow suit. Yimaj,a modern hospital built with over 30 million birr by the investor, is providing medical service for residents of Harrar town and the environs.

Representative of Harrari state HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office, Afendi Basha, said on his part that the construction of the center would contribute a great deal to the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, and his office will provide the necessary support for its realization.
