Ministry striving to realize health extension program in pastoralist, semi-pastoralist areas |

Addis Ababa, December 19, 2006 (WIC) – Various activities have been undertaken to realize the health extension program in pastoralist and semi-pastoralist areas during the past four months, the Ministry of Health said. According to the ministry, four health extension training schools which would train 462 health extension workers in the areas are being furnished with educational materials and other inputs. Curricula of health extension packages and pastoralists health extension program have subsequently been distributed to all the schools, the ministry indicated. Out of the 16 types of health extension packages envisioned to be implemented in Somali State by translating the manuals into the Somali language and dispatching 3,000 copies each, the translation of 12 packages was finalized. The ministry added that four reference books for the pastoralist health extension course have been under distribution since last month. It further stated that following the evaluation of the teaching-learning process in pastoralist training schools in Dubti, Arbaminch and Jijiga towns support has been provided for the schools. The ministry added that a draft document for developing packages and curriculum has also been prepared to make the urban health extension program effective. |
