Integrating reproductive health, HIV/AIDS programs said crucial in enhancing development

Addis Ababa, March 07, 2006 (WIC)- Integrated execution of reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programs has been described as crucial in enhancing development and eliminating poverty.

In a relevant panel discussion held here today participants said integrated implementation of reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programs has vital role in the effort launched to ensure sustainable development.

The issues of reproductive health and HIV/AIDS are inseparable and creating conducive atmosphere would be useful to health services and in addressing socio-economic problems.

The participants said the integrated activities have paramount importance for service providers and beneficiaries.

It would also be essential in addressing health problems of youth and women, and creating productive citizens as well as minimizing maternal and infant mortality.

Reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and rendering counseling, information networking , treatment and referral services could also be made easy with the integrated activities on the reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention,they stated.

The integrated undertaking would be essential to properly utilize manpower, finance and material resources,the participants further underlined.

Representatives of organizations working on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS as well as educational and religious institutions participated at the half-day panel discussion organized by Packard Foundation and Walta Information Center.
