Assosa, March 15,
2006 (WIC)- The Health Bureau of Benishangul Gumuz state said it has secured 100,000 mosquito nets in donation from the Global Fund. Malaria and other Vector Borne Diseases Prevention and Control Team Leader with the Bureau, Paulos Simenigus, told WIC yesterday that the nets would play crucial in protecting half a million people from malaria as they are distributed in most of the woredas in the state that are prone to malaria epidemic. He said the chemically treated mosquito nets could protect the inhabitants from mosquitoes for a long period, Paulos said, adding that awareness raising education was also being given on the proper use of the nets. Some 40,000 chemically treated mosquito nets were distributed last Ethiopian year in the state, according to Paulos. |
