Addis Ababa, May 8 (WIC) - The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) disclosed that Ethiopia has been undertaking successful works towards ensuring the equality and benefits of women.
UNIFEM Cross Regional Programs Manager, Letty Chiwara, said here today at the launching of the Mapping Study on Aid Effectiveness and Gender Equality in Ethiopia that wide-ranging development works instrumental in ensuring gender equality are reportedly underway in Ethiopia.
Successful activities are also being carried out in the implementation of policies and strategies that would enable women take part in development activities in the country, the manager added.
Women Policy and Strategy Execution Department Head with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Roman Tesfaye, on her part said that the country has currently been helping women become beneficiaries of loan and aid secured from overseas establishing a system that ensured gender equality. Better outcomes have been achieved than other African countries, she added.
UNIFEM Ethiopia Program Coordinator, Atsede Zerfu, on said on the occasion that the study was carried out for the past five months in line with the Paris Declaration.
Some 50 representatives drawn from pertinent governmental and non-governmental institutions took part in the launching of the study, it was learnt.
