QSAE enhancing quality inspection works on food items

Addis Ababa, May 9 (WIC) - The Quality and Standard Authority of Ethiopia (QSAE) said it has enhanced the laboratory inspection works on food items using the internationally recognized microbiology laboratory inspection sectors.

Authority Public Relations and Education Service Head, Sisay Assefe told WIC that consolidating the laboratory inspection works is of immense benefits towards ensuring the social security of the public.

It would also contribute to expedite the efforts underway to get out of poverty, the head said, adding that products that have undergone quality inspection and proved to meet the desired standard have better demand in the market.

According to the head, the authority carry out the laboratory inspection services on food items such as cereals, oil seeds, meat, tomato, milk and milk products, macaroni, spaghetti and biscuits. Once they get quality approval of the authority, they would have international acceptance, he added.

Producers used to send samples to abroad for quality inspection which incurs substantial amount finance before the authority got international recognition, Sisay noted.
