Ababa, May 10, 2008 (WIC) – EPRDF Support Forum said it has been undertaking advocacy works so as to enable Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin in the U.S play their part in the development works underway in the country.
Forum Chairman Engineer Mekonen Kassa, told WIC that the forum was set up at an international level in order to help Ethiopians in the Diaspora have full knowledge of the progresses made in the political, economic and social sectors in the country.
The forum has been organizing discussions that would help to nurture the culture of resolving political differences through dialogue and thus enabling EPRDF familiarize its policies, he added.
It is also carrying out activities of rectifying biased and distorted reports issued by various institutions regarding the country, Engineer Mekonen stated.
Besides, the forum is undertaking activities of correcting misconceptions created by opposition parties in the U.S by wrongly portraying the development works underway in the country, he stressed.
The opposition parties have spoiled the reputation of the country by disseminating baseless allegations as if there is no democracy and human rights, he recalled adding that Ethiopians residing in the U.S have currently been denying support to these groups as they are comprehending the policies of EPRDF.
The forum has established branch offices in five towns and is also carrying out activities to launch similar offices in Canada, Sweden and other countries, according to the chairman.
In addition efforts are also underway to promote investment options in the country so as to help Ethiopians in Diaspora take part in the development activities in the country, Engineer Mekonen further noted.
Thousands of Ethiopians have got registered as members through registration carried out via internet in the past four months, it was pointed out.
