Addis Ababa, May 10, 2008 (WIC) –
Residents of Kirkos Sub-city expressed that it is
mandatory to set up consumers associations swiftly in
order to stabilize the price hike and rising cost of
living.While establishing a “Self-Help Consumers' Cooperative Association" here today, the residents said that the association would significantly contribute towards regulating the unbalanced market system and mounting prices.
Founders of the association who indicated that the formation of the association would spare them from avaricious business people pledged to strive for its success.
Kebele Forum Chairperson Asnakech Haile-Eyesus, on her part underlined the importance consumers' association to check the artificial price hike created by some merchants.
She urged the public to work with sense of ownership for the success of the associations.
Sub-city Associations Organization representative, Girma Negash, on his part stated that the formation of the association is significant so as prevent mounting prices as well as supply various produces to the public at fair price.
Over 4,000 residents have so far got registered for membership, it was pointed out.
