Ethio-Kenya Joint Border Commission meeting held

Addis Ababa, May 9 (WIC) - The 27th Ethio-Kenya Joint Border Commission meeting held in Mombassa, Kenya from May 8-9, 2012, the Ethiopian Embassy in Kenya told ENA in a statement yesterday.

According to the embassy, the Ethiopian delegation was led by the SNNP State Chief, Shiferaw Shigute. The meeting discussed issues including politics, economy, peace and stability.   

The two sides have accedes to deploy peacekeeping army conscripted from the two countries to further strengthen the peace and stability in border areas.   

It said the sides have also agreed to make more visible the border singes which were derelict.

The agreement also includes the establishment of joint border trade committee, closely work to prevent illegal human trafficking, drugs and weapons and enhance activities related to health, agriculture and custom.   

The embassy said the first technical assessment committee had held its meeting in May, 2011 and assessed the implementation of the agreement signed on 33rd Ethio-Kenya Joint ministerial meeting.

The committee had evaluated the over all relation, implementation of agreements and exchanged ideas on peace and stability between the two countries.   

Agreements have been reached to speed up implementation of agreements that were made following Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s visit to Kenya. The Foreign Affairs Officials of the two countries have led the meeting.
