Awash-Kombolcha-Woldiya railway construction reaches 45%

Kombolcha, July 28, 2016(WIC) – The Awash- Kombolcha-Woldiya(Hara Gebeya) Railway construction project has reached 45 percent, Project Head said.

Manager of the project, Abdulkerim Mohamed, briefing the Ethiopian Diaspora visiting the site on their way to Bahir Dar, construction of the railway line that commenced in 2014 has now reached 45 percent.

The project is planned to be accomplished in 2018 and the construction is underway 24 hours of a day with deployment of employees in two shifts, he noted.

The railway line, which is to be 391 kilometers long, is hoped to serve passengers, baggage and luggage in areas it crosses, he underscored.

The railway line is expected to connect the towns of Awash, Haik, Senbete, Kara Kore, Kombolcha and Mersa and shall foster trade and other economic activities across the line, he said.

The project is undertaken by the Turkish company, Yapi Merkzi, with an allocated budget of 1.7 billion USD.

The project has so far created job opportunities for more than 3500 people, Walta learnt
