Only 23 percent of hotel employees are professionals- Institute

The Hotel and Tourism Training Institute has disclosed that only 23 percent of those employed in the Hotel industry have professional training

Instrutute Executive Director, Ashebir Tekle, noted that the sector, though is getting more trained professionals, is dominated by those hired in informal and corrupt ways.

The Institute has prepared a 10 year roadmap that is to be practical since this budget year, he noted.

The road map is dubbed to strengthen competency, research and consultancy performances, he underscored.

The road map is prepared in such a way that it can create job opportunities in the short run, he said.

It shall enable the Institute to work in collaboration with other stake holders and increase the number of professionals in the sector to 80 percent during the stated period, he added.
