Company to export leather gloves to US

Addis Ababa, October 28 (WIC) – Pittards Ethiopia Tannery here on Thursday announced that it will start exporting 40,000 paired leather gloves per month to the US market.

Speaking at the inauguration of the factory, Company Managing Director, J. Moriarty said his company will start exporting leather gloves beginning from the coming November.

He said the company has so far created jobs for more than 170 people.

Upon going fully operational after 6 months, the company will export 80,000 paired-gloves and create jobs for 500 people.

Industry State Minister, Tadesse Haile on his part said the factory will assist the country not only to gain foreign currency but also creates opportunity to the successful transfer of technology in the sector.

The revenue Ethiopia obtained from export of leather products is less due to the practice of exporting semi-finished leather products by many companies in the industry.

Tadesse said the company’s practice to export finished leather product will lead the country’s leather industry one step ahead. (ENA)
