Hailemariam discusses with UN senior official

Addis Ababa, November 22 (WIC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hailemariam Desalegn here on Monday discussed with Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, Cheick Sidi Diarra.

Hailemariam on the occasion briefed Diarra on the ongoing efforts to bring about development in the country based on the five-year Growth and Transformation Plan.

He also briefed the UN official on major development areas incorporated in the Plan. Hailemariam also said the existing rapid development in Ethiopia is exemplary to other developing countries.

Diarra on his part lauded Ethiopia’s contribution toward success of the Conference of Least Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries held in Istanbul, Turkey last year.

He said that he discussed with Hailemariam on issues related to implementation of the agreements reached at the conference.

The two parties also discussed on the ongoing efforts of the Ethiopian government to extricate the country from dependency.

They also exchanged views on ways to further strengthen UN support to Ethiopia. (ENA)
