Commission files corruption charges on Melaku Fenta et al

Addis Ababa, 29 August 2013 (WIC) –The Federal Ethics and Anti- corruption Commission (FEACC) today filed corruption charges in 8 separate files on Meleku Fenta,

former director general and Gebrewahid Gebregiorgis, former deputy director general of the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA).

Over 40 defendants are included in the charges, among whom are government officials, and top businessmen. However, the commission’s investigators have asked for 14 more days to finalize investigations on 4 suspects. They included Mihretab Abraha, brother of TPLF veteran Siye Abraha, Begziabher Alebel, owner of Ultimate Plan Plc.

Investigator told the court this morning that company audit works in relation to these suspects is yet to be completed.

Details of the charges are expected to be revealed tomorrow when the court reconvenes. The charges will be read out to the defendants.
