China awards scholarship to 236 Ethiopians

Addis Ababa, 04 August, 2016(WIC) – China has awarded scholarship   to 236 Ethiopian students’   different higher learning institutions.

During the award ceremony of 2016/17 of the Chinese government scholarship held yesterday in China embassy to Ethiopia, the Chinese government has made official that it has granted scholarship to 236 Ethiopian winners.

China’s ambassador to Ethiopia, La Yifan, said at ceremony of the 27th scholarship awarding program that Chinese scholarship award is part of the cooperation between Ethiopia and China to strengthen Ethiopian human resource development.

According to Ambassador La Yifan, the Chinese government has planned to offer more than   30,000 scholarships to African countries   in order to bolster the relation between African and china.

China, the largest trading partner, has the desire to support hopeful countries such as Ethiopia, the ambassador underscored. China needs to have common progress and prosperity with the southern parts of the world, he reiterated.

Representative of the minister of education, Dr Zerihun Kebede,  on his part said that china and Ethiopia  have  a longstanding and  historical  relation and this  is  now  manifested  especially  in the field  of education.

The Chinese government has  provided about  26 post graduate scholarships  and other short  term  training  opportunities  in this budget year , Dr  Zerihun noted. The Chinese government is particularly committed to strengthen the capacity building programs in science and technology fields, he added.

China   started its diplomatic relations with Ethiopia 60 years ago and nowadays it has become a strong partner to Ethiopia and other African countries.
