Ministry says successful in making health service accessible to all

The Ministry of Health has announced that it has registered a successful achievement in making primary health service accessible to all.   

The Representative of the Ministry’s General Health Directorate, Yibeltal Mekonnen (MDr.), told Walta Information Center that the government has successfully achieved its broad based health sector programs to make health service accessible at grass root level.

According Yibeltal, the public was in dire need of medical services like maternal health, pediatrics and emergency services in their locality just two decades ago.   

Thanks the massive work carried at in the health sector of Ethiopia, the country is now able to make primary health care accessible to all, he said.

He noted that the country managed to build and equip a number of health posts, health centers and primary care hospitals.    

Ethiopia’s health care service has been proved successful in not only by making primary health care service accessible but also by improving quality of service from time to time. The policy direction geared toward prevention has also been successful in engaging the public at large, said Yibeltal.

According to Yibeltal, efforts are currently underway to make the care system more patient friendly and low cost.

The government has also introduced health insurance systems. It is working to expand it, he said.  

Based on information obtained from the ministry, health posts, health centers and primary care hospitals built and equipped in the country over the past two decades has made primary health care service accessible to all citizens of the country. Following 100 percent achievement in primary health care, the country is shifting its attention from communicable disease to non-communicable disease like cancer, psychiatry, heart and the like.
