ICT growth accelerates Ethiopia’s socio-economic leap forward

Addis Ababa, 11 August 2016 (WIC)- The Information and Communication Ministry said emphasis is given to ICT development as it is backbone to Ethiopia’s socio- economic growth.

Speaking at the 5th ICT National Innovation Competition Award Ceremony and Mini Exhibition Event held today, State Minister, Getachew Negash, noted that the government has paid due attention to ICT through support, inspiration and creation of internationally competent ICT engineers to excel the sector.

Negash noted that the government highly encourages and motivates women to join the sector. Such actions will be continued in a well comprehended way in the future.

It was indicated that 77 women have participated in the competition.

Relevance of the innovations, national impacts, being market oriented and practicability of them were among the main criteria for the competition.

Engidawork Kebede from the women category and Mebtu Abebe from the general category have won 75,000 EtB per head.

Over 300,000 EtB is spent for the winners. Besides, there will be possible chances to link them with markets and improve their innovations with companies working in the same sector.

Walta has learnt that Google, with its 10,000 software engineers, has accumulated 74 billion USD.
