Ethiopia Names Negotiation Committee Members to Resolve Conflict in the North

Addis Ababa, June 28, 2022(Walta) – The Federal Government of Ethiopia names negotiation committee members to peacefully resolve the crisis in the northern part of the country.

The government has announced that a peaceful way will be implemented to resolve the crisis in a way that respects the sovereignty and national interest of the country.

According to a press briefing by Minister of Justice, Gideon Timotheos (Ph.D.), the negotiation will be facilitated by the African Union.

The minister said that the governing party’s Central Committee and Executive Committee members have made the decision to work towards peace in its recent meeting.

Gideon made public that negotiation will be held in a manner that respects the country’s supreme law and the constitution.

The committee is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Demeke Mekonnen. while Gedion Timotheos, Temesgen Tiruneh, Ambassador Hassen Abdulkadir, Ambassador Redwan Hussien, Lt. Gen Birhanu Bekele, and Getachew Jenber are members of the committee.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has announced the formation of the committee in his recent appearance before lawmakers.
