Amb. Hadera Meets Resident African Ambassadors in Accra

Addis Ababa, June 1, 2021(Walta) – The ambassador-designate of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of Ghana, Hadera Abera Admassu has met and discussed with Francess Virginia Anderson, High Commissioner of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Eliphas M.Barine, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya as well as Grace Jean Mason, the High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa in Accra, Ghana.

During his meetings with the distinguished Ambassadors, Ambassador Hadera explained the current situation in the country, the upcoming national election, the border issue with Sudan, the ongoing negotiation on GER) as well as the need for cooperation and exchange of information on the African Continental Free Trade Area.

He further underlined the need for the mobilization of support to Dr. Arkebe Okubay, the sole Candidate of the African Union for the position of UNIDO Director-General. The Ambassadors of the respective countries resident in Accra, Ghana took note of all the issues raised by the Designate Ambassador Hadera Abera and expressed their willingness to provide their support and closely work with the Ambassador.

The ambassador-designate of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of Ghana, Hadera Abera Admassu has also met with the Secretary-General of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Wamkele Keabetswe Mene.

Ambassador Hadera highlighted to the Secretary-General of the AfCFTA that as the largest landlocked country, Ethiopia stands to benefit from the Continental Free Trade Area and emphasized the importance his government attaches to closely working with the AfCFTA Secretariat based in Accra, Ghana.

He further explained that as the experience of his country in Free Trade activity is very limited, he requested the support of the Secretariat in the area of training, capacity building, as well as technical assistance to maximize the competitiveness of Ethiopia in the African market.

The Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Wamkele Keabetswe Mene on his part expressed his readiness to provide the requested support and further noted that Ethiopia, as the largest and efficient air service provider in the continent, is in a better position to benefit from the African Free Trade Area.

He also expressed his readiness to support the reform taking place in the telecommunication sector as well as he pledged to provide, as a core mission of the AfCFTA Secretariat, assistance to build and enhance the capacity of the private sector in Ethiopia.
