Addis Ababa, December 31, 2021 (Walta) – Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Germany, Mulu Solomon has applauded Ethiopian Diasporas for a noteworthy contribution in defending their home country’s sovereignty which is unprecedented in recent history.

Amb. Mulu told local media that Ethiopians in the Diaspora have made remarkable efforts in supporting the national activities geared towards ensuring the peace and development of the country. “We are working day and night to serve visa demanders. The number is larger than the expected… so, it will have a political impact beyond its economic contribution.”

Ethiopians and foreigners of Ethiopian origin living abroad have made heroic responses against foreign interference, she added.

Ambassador Mulu further noted that the Diaspora community has also demonstrated an overwhelming response to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s homecoming initiative defying some Western embassies’ repeated and unwarranted security alerts. The response also exposes those countries that have been engaged in spewing lies so as to discourage the homecoming.

Ethiopia’s diplomatic missions in Germany have been utilizing online gadgets to facilitate and speed up the homecoming. “We have prepared online registrations that can be easily accessible to the community.”

The current government’s commitment to defend Ethiopia’s sovereignty and dignity intensifies some interest groups’ attempts to stir in domestic affairs and this mounting pressure requires an integrated engagement of the Diaspora, the diplomat urged.

“The Diaspora’s patriotism has been rising greatly. Now, we have to maintain this spirit since the challenge is alive and deepening. Those interest groups that have made unwarranted attempt to meddle in Ethiopia’s domestic affairs should realize the situation and refrain from unconstructive engagement”.

Meanwhile Ambassador Mulu highlighted that the government prepared various activities that aimed to mobilize the Diaspora’s active involvement to support people affected by the northern conflict and restore the damaged infrastructure.
