Amb.  Teshome Briefs leaders of Chinese Think Tank

Addis Ababa April 20/2022 (Walta) – Ethiopia’s Ambassador to China, Teshome Toga, briefed the Founder and President of Center for China and Globalization (CCG), Huiyao Wang (PhD) and scholars at the center about the current state of affairs in Ethiopia.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador’s briefing mainly focused on North Ethiopia’s security crisis, unjustified Western pressure on Ethiopia and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) construction project.

While explaining the security crisis in Tigray, the Ambassador noted that the government was forced to engage the war after it had made multiple efforts to it.

Even after the war broke out, the government announced a unilateral cease fire to give peace a chance amidst the war said Amb. Teshome.

He also briefed about the truce the government announced recently in order to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance in to the region.

“The West, especially the United States and the European Union have imposed unjustified sanctions on Ethiopia. That is hurting the country’s economy and diplomacy. They have engaged in a defamation campaign against the country through their media outlets,” he said.

In his brief, the Ambassador lauded China’s support to Ethiopia throughout this challenging time.

Regarding GERD, he told the leaders of the center that the dam will provide electricity to more than 60 percent of Ethiopia’s population which currently stands over 110 million.

On his part, Huiyao Wang (PhD) , thanked the Ambassador for briefing his team in person while assuring that the CCG will continue to work closely with the embassy.
