Ambassador Meles Alem Reappointed as Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Addis Ababa, June 23, 2022 (Walta) – The Ethiopian government has reappointed Ambassador Meles Alem as Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Meles Alem was Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Kenya before the new appointment. Before moving to Kenya, he served the ministry as a Spokesperson.

The former Spokesperson, Ambassador Dina Mufti has also been appointed as the ministry’s Director-General of Public Diplomacy.

Ambassador Dina Mufti is credited for introducing the ministry’s weekly press briefing after returning back home from Brussels years ago.

In today’s media briefing, Ambassador Dina Mufti and Ambassador Meles Alem shared the floor together.

Journalists present at the weekly press briefing appreciated Ambassador Dina for being media-friendly at a time when the country was facing pressures both from inside and outside in the last two years.

Ambassador Meles Alem, on his part, pledged to serve the country diligently in his new role. He was Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Kenya for the past three years before assuming his new role.

Ambassador Meles was presented with Kenya’s ‘Nyayo Simba’ award, for his momentous contributions to cementing Ethio-Kenyan relations.
