Ethiopia Briefs Niger on GERD

Addis Ababa, May 06, 2021 (Walta) – Ethiopia has briefed Niger, an Alternative Member of the United Nations Security Council, on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

President Sahlework Zewdie discussed with Niger counterpart Mohamed Bazoum in Niamey yesterday.

The President briefed Niger to better understanding the issues raised by the Security Council regarding Ethiopia.

Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its efforts to show the fact and belief on the Dam, President Sahlework noted.

During the discussion, Dr. Sileshi Bekele, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, emphasized Ethiopia’s stance on GERD.

Earlier, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, and Sudanese Foreign Minister, Dr. Mariam al-Mahdi moved to various African countries to present their countries’ beliefs concerning GERD.

The Security Council has raised its concerns regarding GERD and the law enforcement actions in Tigray region, it was learned.
