Addis Ababa, October 28, 2021 (Walta) – The Government of Ethiopia has called upon Sudan mediating the establishment of a coalition government, consisting of its civilian and military components, and adopting the constitutional document of the transitional period.
Spokesperson of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Dina Mufti, has delivered a fortnight press briefing to journalists today. During his briefings Amb. Dina noted that the Government of Ethiopia called on all parties for calm and de-escalation in Sudan and to exert every effort towards a peaceful end to this crisis.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister appreciated the EU’s support given to Olusegun Obasanjo’s mediation efforts and spoke in detail about the government’s roadmap to resume an all-inclusive national dialogue in the country.
He urged the European Union to extend its Airbridge Humanitarian support to affected people in the Amhara region.
Demeke also called on the EU to condemn the TPLF for its transgression and pressure the group to immediately withdraw its soldiers from occupied areas in the Amhara region.
He also said it is high time for the two sides to initiate the next round of political consultation mechanisms and create understanding and normalize relations.
He said that Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen had met with European Union Commissioner for International Partnership, Jutta Urpilainen, and briefed her on the ongoing efforts of the government to address the humanitarian crisis in the northern parts of the country.
Ambassador Dina said the government had called on the EU to recognize the government’s efforts and continue support for enhanced humanitarian operation.
With regard to economic diplomacy, Ambassador Redwan Hussein appreciated the company’s investment activities in the manufacturing sector, which aligned with the government’s priority areas for developing the nation.
According to MoFA, Ethiopians living in United Kingdom have raised funds to help displaced people by condemning the terrorist attack on innocent people in the Amhara region.
