Ethiopia, Djibouti Ink Agreement to Address Common Security Concerns

Addis Ababa, March 11, 2021(Walta) – Ethiopia and Djibouti have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to effectively respond to common security concerns, bolster border security preparedness as well as engender qualified police personnel.

The MoU was signed in the presence of the Commissioner-General of the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission, Demelash G/Michael & Director of Djiboutian National Police Force Colonel Abdillahi Abdi, H.E. Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye as well as scores of high-level officials and diplomats.

During the signing ceremony, Commissioner General Demelash expressed his confidence that the MoU will best serve the two brotherly countries to scale up joint endeavors in the field of security & policing. Hence, added the commissioner in the face of ongoing challenges there is no better time than now to sign the MoU.

Commending his Ethiopian counterpart for expediting the process in the shortest time possible, Colonel Abdillahi Abdi on his part stressed the urgent need to translate the MoU into action.

The two sides have also agreed to hold consultations every six months between senior officials of the two respective sectors.

It was noted that the two sides will collaborate on the education and training of human power in the field of police peacekeeping and forensic science.

An agreement was also reached to establish Joint Task Force in Diredawa and Djibouti.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, the inking of the MoU followed the meeting between Commissioner Demelash & Colonel Abdillahi in Addis Ababa earlier this year.
