Addis Ababa, December 20, 2021 (Walta) – Ambassador Demitu Hambisa, Ethiopia’s ambassador in Italy, discussed with Harris Lalacos, Director General of Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, about current situations in Ethiopia.
During their discussion, Ambassador Demitu briefed the Director-General on the genesis of the conflict in Ethiopia.
She said the TPLF, through its belligerent attitude, has sparked the conflict by attacking the northern command of the ENDF.
She also spoke in detail about the atrocities committed by the TPLF and the unprecedented destruction of property during the group’s invasion of the Amhara and Afar regions.
Despite all the constructive measures taken by the government, the mainstream media reports have pressured the government by sidestepping the crimes of the TPLF, she said.
The ambassador also spoke on the unwarranted and politically motivated call of the UNHRC in Geneva to have a special session on Ethiopia.
She said the decision of the Council disregarded the joint UN-EHRC investigation recommendations and dragged the redressing and restitution process.
Ambassador Demitu has expressed Ethiopia’s interest to cement ties between the two countries, particularly in politics, business and tourism.
Harris Lalacos, on his part, expressed Greece’s interest to scale up relations with Ethiopia.
He said Greece is keen to boost its relationship with Africa, being mindful of Ethiopia’s importance in this regard, as Ethiopia is the seat of the African Union Commission.
