Ethiopia, Russia Agree to Further Enhance Bilateral Cooperation

Addis Ababa, December 8, 2022 (Walta) – The 8th Ethio-Russia Joint Ministerial Meeting concluded today in Addis Ababa, in the presence of Belete Molla (PHD), Minister of Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia, and Evgeny Petrov, the Head of the Russian Federation delegation to the Ethio-Russia Joint Ministerial Commission.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Belete said that the deliberations were fruitful and the meeting was held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding to promote cooperation between two countries at the highest level.

According to Dr. Belete, the Commission created an opportunity to review the current state and the prospects of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, identify the level of implementation of agreements, and pledge to take the necessary steps.

Evgeny Petrov, for his part, said that the interrelations between the two countries have operated for over 300 years, passed the test of time, and have been based on an equal, mutually beneficial partnership.

The 8th Ethio-Russia Joint Ministerial Meeting was held for three days and offered the opportunity to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of mining, energy, trade, education, health, agriculture, industry, culture, and tourism, science and technology, geo-spatial and space science, investment, and ICT fields.

The two sides also agreed to hold the 9th Meeting of the Commission in the Russian Federation in 2024, at dates and places to be agreed upon through communications through diplomatic channels, according to MoFA.
