Ethiopia, UNIDO Sign a £3.5 mln Grant Agreement

Addis Ababa, October 6, 2023 (Addis Walta) Ethiopian Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) signed a 3.5 million Euro project financed by the government of Italy.

The project, “Support to Youth and Women through the Development Products, Services, and Public-Private Partnerships,” aims to support the government of Ethiopia in its job creation efforts by improving the institutional capacities to encourage talented youth and women in the area of entrepreneurship.

The project will be implemented in two years period by the Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS).

During the signing ceremony, State Minister of Finance Semereta Sewasew stated that Ethiopia has untapped potential for job opportunities in various sectors, of which promoting private business and entrepreneurship is among the prime focus of the government.

She added that the project is expected to facilitate the creation of opportunities for talented Ethiopian youth and women focusing on institutional capacity-building.

The project will also contribute to upgrading the designing capacities of entrepreneurs, promoting innovative culture, and strengthening Public Private Partnerships (PPP), according to the Ministry of Finance..

Representing UNIDO, the regional director and representative, Aurelia Patrizia Calabro, signed the project document.
