Ethiopia, World Bank Agree $405mln Grant for Water Development, Anti-COVID Campaign

Addis Ababa, June 17, 2022(Walta) – The Ministry of Finance and the World Bank Group have signed 405 million USD financial assistance agreements.

The $210 Million financial assistance will support underground water development activities in pastoralist and low rainfall areas.

In addition to Ethiopia, the grant will be used for groundwater development and management in the Horn of Africa, Somalia, and Kenya.

The project’s first phase is expected to involve the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), including the three Horn of Africa countries.

The $195 Million financial support will be used to implement the COVID-19 Strategic Readiness and Response Plan for the COVID-19 Emergency Response Project.

The Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide, and the World Bank Ethiopia Representative Ousmane Dione have inked the agreement.
