Addis Ababa, April 13, 2022 (Walta) – Ethiopians in Belgium have rallied in front of the U.S. Embassy in Brussels to protest H.R. 6600 and S.3199.
The demonstrators highlighted that the resolutions are partial and do not commensurate with the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and the United States.
Ethiopians in the U.S. have so far staged several rallies in various cities to protest the bills they described as counterproductive tools that hurt Ethiopians and tarnish the longstanding relations between the two countries.
H.R. 6600 (Ethiopia Stabilization, Peace and Democracy Act) is sponsored by Tom Malinowski, U.S representative from New Jersey’s 7th congressional district while S. 3199 (Ethiopia Peace and Stabilization Act of 2022) is sponsored by Robert “Bob” Menendez, Senator for New Jersey.
