Humanitarian Assistance to those in Need Persists to be Bolstered

Addis Ababa, June 7, 2022(Walta) – Office of the Prime Minister’s said since last July 2.1 billion birr, 87,000 metric tons of food, and over 783,000 liters of fuel have been sent to Tigray State.

The Prime Minister’s Office Press Secretary Bilene Seyoum briefed foreign journalists on current affairs.

She noted Humanitarian assistance to those in need in the northern part of the country continues to be strengthened

According to this, 2.1 billion birr was sent to Tigray State between July 2021 and the end of May 2022.

87,000 metric tons of humanitarian food and more than 783,000 liters of fuel have been exported in the past, she added.

On the other hand, more than 217,000 kilograms of medical supplies and 130,000 kilograms of non-food aid were also sent during the period.

However, the TPLF is preparing for another war at this time of the next rainy season and is forcibly recruiting people for war.

She noted that the TPLF’s atrocities could hamper further agricultural activities and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the region.

On the other hand, 19,000 metric tons of food have been distributed to the victims of the conflict in Afar State, while 244,000 metric tons of food have been distributed to IDPs in Amhara State, it was learned.
