Japan Appoints New Executive Director for JETRO Office in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, August 24/2022 (Walta) – Japan has appointed new Executive Director for Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Office in Ethiopia.

The appointments was made public by Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia in an event organized to farewell to outgoing executive director and commemorate the impending Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ethiopia, ITO Takako, announced the departure of JETRO’s Former Director General, Takao Seki, after six and a half years of service.

She also introduced the appointment of Yasuhiro Nakayama as JETRO’s new executive director.
The ambassador commended Seki’s efforts in delivering extensive information on trade and investment opportunity in Ethiopia to the Japanese community, holding 25 seminars during his stay and many other successful engagements that increased Japanese companies’ interest in Ethiopia.

The ambassador credited Takao Seki for bringing investors such as JTI and Safaricom to Ethiopia.
The departing Director General, Takao Seki, thanked everyone for their support throughout his stay in Ethiopia.

Yasuhiro Nakayama, the newly appointed Executive Director, promised to do his best by enhancing business opportunities between Ethiopia and Japan.

JETRO is a government funded organization that seeks to encourage mutual commerce and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. It has over 75 foreign offices across the globe. It launched its 74th office in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa in July 2016.
