Addis Ababa, February 19, 2022 (Walta) – A member of the Ethiopian Patriots Association expressed commitment to repeat the victory of forefathers and mothers over fascist forces in countering the unwarranted pressure of some interest groups in his country.

Approached by Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) in connection with the 85th Ethiopian Martyrs’ Day, which commemorates the execution of over 30,000 Ethiopians by Fascist Italian forces, association member Major Tedla Tsetargachew said he is ready as always to defend Ethiopia. International pressure on Ethiopia isn’t

something new, and when Emperor HaileSelassie appeared in the League of Nations to inform global powers about Italians’ atrocities on his people, the West mocked by his speech and allowing the aggression, in a clear violation of international treaties, the ex-soldier added. “On the middle of the Emperor’s speech, Italians and their Western allies demonstrated clear disrespect and protest by shouting loudly and whispering at him as his words was hardly being heard.

Thus, everyone should not be surprised and frustrated by the West’s current pressure on Ethiopia and still history is repeating itself to weaken the nation but couldn’t succeed.”

Major Tedla further highlighted the noble sacrifice Ethiopians paid to repeal Italian invaders and their victory over the fascist forces is an inspiration for the young generation and taught a lesson for the latter to engage in nation building. “Ethiopia’s victory testified to the ability to repel aggression for the oppressed and made the country a symbol of world peace and victory.”

Either the internal or external adversaries couldn’t disintegrate Ethiopia, or even couldn’t stop its development, they should quit the false propaganda and cheap politics, he urged.

The 85th Ethiopian Martyrs’ Day has been observed today with various programs held in Addis Ababa at Sidist Kilo, Yekatit 12 Square.

The commemoration included laying wreaths at the Martyr’s Monument by representatives of Addis Ababa city administration and other organizations in memory of the dead.

The Day commemorates Ethiopians massacred by the Italian forces following an attempted assassination on Marshal Rodolfo Graziani in 1937 in Addis Ababa.
