Addis Ababa, January 20, 2022(Walta) – The marking of the unique festivity of Timket that brought celebrants from home and abroad together at the historical city of Gonder sends a clear message to the world as Ethiopia transits to a brighter period, officials say.
The usual hospitality exhibited by the people and the efficient coordination displayed among all entities are assets that could spur Ethiopia’s economy by attracting domestic and foreign investment, higher government officials who delivered speeches at the festival in Gonder said.
Amhara State Chief Yilkal Kefale (Ph.D.) said the colorful and peaceful celebration of Timket (Ethiopian Epiphany) with massive gatherings in the historical Gondar city transmits a vivid message to the international community and helps stimulate Ethiopia’s economy.
Yilkal said that the celebration attests that Ethiopia’s unity and the brotherhood and sisterhood of the people are everlasting. “The celebration of Timket in Gondar shows the necessity of building the economy through a concerted action of people from multi-religious and multicultural backgrounds. Every Ethiopian have the responsibility to replicate the victory the country gained over internal and external enemies in ensuring sustainable unity and development.”
Yilkal further stated that unity and coordination are the real assets of Ethiopia to rehabilitate the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) created following the TPLF-provocations. The involvement of every stakeholder in making Gondar a preferred tourist destination is crucial and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church deserves recognition for its achievement in preserving the country’s ancient heritage.
“The state government will work broadly to further make Gondar tourist-friendly city.”
He also applauded the role the Diaspora Ethiopians have demonstrated to support their home country in different areas. The Diaspora community-supported Ethiopia’s peace and development financially, professionally, and in other ways. The Diasporas’ involvement in the #NoMore campaign brought significant outcomes.
GondarDeputy Mayor Zewdu Malede said for his part that this year’s celebration of Timket is unique in that it has come after the demise of Ethiopia’s enemies. The festivity also attests to the value of togetherness and peace to the world and the transition from the dark to the bright period.
The deputy mayor pointed out that the active participation of Ethiopians home and abroad to counter the enemies should be repeated on ensuring the country’s sustainable journey towards stability, unity, and development.
Meanwhile, participants of the festival expressed happiness in the peacefulness of the festival with a large congregation.
