Addis Ababa, March 04, 2022(Walta) – President Sahlework Zewde has expressed condolences for the passing away of the 4th Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church, His Holiness Abune Merkorios.
The president said, “His Holiness Abune Merkorios has gone to his God. I express my heartfelt condolences to his family and to all Ethiopians. May God rest his soul in heaven” she added.
Similarly, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has expressed condolences at the passing away of his Holiness Abune Merkorios.
The Prime Minister disclosed that his Holiness Patriarch contributed a major role in the reunification of the two synods of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church at home and abroad.
The Premier further said that the Patriarch was serving the nation with his prayers, adding that “the death of his Holiness at this time is a great loss to the country.”
President Sahlework and Prime Minister Abiy had visited the Patriarch at a hospital while he was receiving treatment.
