Somali President on Tour of Egypt

Addis Ababa, July 25, 2022 (Walta) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Cairo on Sunday to begin an official visit of Egypt at the invitation of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

The Egypt visit is Mohamud’s seventh foreign trip since he returned to power in May after winning the Somali presidential election.

According to Villa Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Abdul Fetah El-Sisi are scheduled to hold bilateral talks focused on strengthening Somali-Egyptian relations, economic ties and security and education cooperation between their two countries.

The Somali President returned to Mogadishu on Saturday after completing a two-day visit of Tanzania where he attended the 22nd Ordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State as a special guest. It is still pushing to be admitted into the EAC.

Before his Tanzanian trip, Mohamud visited Kenya, Eritrea, United Arab Emirates, Djibouti and Türkiye.

According to Somali local media, the President’s delegation includes the Director of the National Intelligence Agency, Mahad Mohamed Salad, who is believed to have has deep ties with Egyptian officials and political figures
