Addis Ababa, June 17, 2022(Walta) – State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma received a delegation led by Dr. Alexander Alvin, owner and President of the American Satellite Company ORION.
The discussion between the two sides focused on utilizing satellite data and space technology in light of cooperation between the Ethiopian Government and Orion.
Recalling his discussion with the officials of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Alexander briefed the Ambassador on the key activities of Orion and expressed his interest in working with the government of Ethiopia.
The two sides noted that the company could bring new technologies to Ethiopia and closely work with the government, particularly on space technology infrastructure, human resource development, and investment.
Ambassador Tesfaye thanked the delegation for their interest in investing in Ethiopia reiterating his belief that it will support Ethiopia’s efforts to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the African Agenda 2063.
He said the government of Ethiopia adopted a ten-year home-grown economy plan, prioritizing innovation and digitalization, among others, necessitating the support of space technology.
The meeting between the two sides was concluded with an understanding to cooperate in utilizing the sector in Ethiopia for mutual benefits.
