State of Bavaria Pledges Continued Support to Ethiopia in Controlling COVID 19

Addis Ababa, June 10, 2021 (Walta) – The State of Bavaria of Germany has reaffirmed continued support to Ethiopia in preventing and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse met with Bavarian State Minister for European Affairs and International Relations Melanie Hummel and Ethiopian Ambassador to Germany Stephen Auer yesterday. On the occasion, Minister Hummel appreciated Ethiopia’s commitment to preventing and controlling the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr. Lia appreciated the government of Germany and the Bavarian State for their support in general and the specific projects between the University of Munich with Jimma University and Polytechnic College.

She expressed the needed support for Ethiopia to continue its efforts to provide to fight the pandemic including providing the Covid-19 vaccine to its citizens.

Minister Melanie Huml, on her part, said the Bavarian State has a long-standing collaboration with Ethiopia in various fields of health, education, agriculture, human resource development, and other areas and will continue to strengthen this collaboration.

German Ambassador to Ethiopia, Stephen Auer, handed over half a million face masks to the Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadesse through “COPE: Covid-19 prevention project in Ethiopia”.

They stated that the ongoing cooperation activities, especially the prevention and control of Covid-19, the strengthening of local pharmaceutical production, and the transfer of knowledge and skills will be strengthened.

The research projects were presented and discussed by educational institutions from both countries.
