Addis Ababa, August 24, 2022 (Walta) – Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) has effectively ended the unilateral humanitarian truce in place following the assault it has launched early in the morning, said the government in a statement it released today.

TPLF has launched offensive in the Eastern Front of Biso Ber, Zobel and Tekulesh today at 5:00 AM said the Ethiopian Government Communication Service in a statement.

The government blamed the group designated as terrorist by Ethiopian House of People’s Representative for premeditated offensive.

“The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) and allied forces are taking the necessary counter offensive decisively,” reads the statement.

“To safeguard the peace and security of its citizen, the security forces of the country has been ordered to stand on high alert,” it adds.

According to the government, its hand stretched for peace has been betrayed by TPLF once again.
It has to be remembered that the spokesperson of the terror group, Getachew Rewda, declared the unilateral humanitarian truce the government declared last march was “technically over” in his recent presser to Tigray TV.

The government called up on the international community to pressure TPLF to desist from its destructive course of actions.

It also called up on Ethiopians to stand in unison with the government in order to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Once again, the government has declared its strong desire to solve any differences that might exist among Ethiopians in a peaceful manner.

“If the terror group continues with its current offensive, the government will discharge its constitutional, moral and historical responsibility of defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. The Government will take every measure it deem necessary to bring back the culprit to the negotiation table,” said the government.

The federal government has been taking measures it believes will solve the conflict in the Tigray Regional State in a peaceful manner.

Among the measures taken by the federal government to solve the conflict in the region are its decision not to reenter Tigray following TPLF forces expulsion from Afar and Amhara Regional States, declaring of unilateral humanitarian truce in order to facilitate the follow of life saving aid in to the region, releasing high profile TPLF prisoners caught in the law enforcement operation, establishing Peace Committee that is operational, shipment of essential commodities in to the region including medicine and attempting to operationalize vital services damaged by the terror group through third party.
