UN Welcomes Ethiopia’s Assurance on Access to Tigray

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed assurance regarding humanitarian access to Tigray region.

According to a presser released by the UN Secretary General Spokes Person, The Ethiopian Government will facilitate access to Tigray for humanitarian organizations and restoration of essential basic services.

The Secretary-General and Prime Minister spoke yesterday to discuss humanitarian situation in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.

The Secretary-General also acknowledged the Government’s pledge to use the ceasefire to facilitate urgent humanitarian assistance, including regular United Nations humanitarian flights into Tigray, as well as support for agricultural activities.

The Secretary-General reiterates his call that all parties to the conflict in Tigray meet their obligations to protect civilians, provide unimpeded humanitarian access and to observe international humanitarian law.
