Addis Ababa, April 16, 2022 (Walta) – The United States welcomes the arrival of 50 humanitarian convoy carrying over 1,700 metric tons of humanitarian assistance in Tigray said the US Secretary of State in a press statement it released yesterday.
“We appreciate the efforts of the government of Ethiopia, Tigrayan regional authorities, and Afar regional authorities in facilitating that delivery,” reads the statement.
The US also underscores the importance of TPLF forces withdrawal from Erebti and pushed for further withdrawal from the remaining part of Afar regional state.
The TPLF still controls four Woredas of Zone two of Afar regional State bordering Tigray.
The statement also calls for cessation of hostilities as critical step toward reconciliation and peace.
“The parties must continue to build on this progress to advance a negotiated and sustainable end of conflict,” adds the statement.
Humanitarian aid has been flowing in to Tigray following the unilateral humanitarian truces announced by Ethiopian government recently.
