WFP to Launch Second Flight to Mekelle

Addis Ababa, July 22, 2021 (Walta) –The World Food Program is about to fly to Mekelle for the second time since the Federal Government declared a unilateral ceasefire.

After the federal government granted the World Food Program to fly to Mekelle for humanitarian purpose, the organization has finalized preparations to fly today according to an information obtained from the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ethiopian Civil aviation Authority has closed the airspace crossing the Tigray Regional State days before  the federal government declared the unilateral ceasefire.

As a result of the closure, the WFP’s requested for a permit to fly to region region capital city, Mekelle.

The government being cognizant of the the need to improve humanitarian assistance in Tigray region, it has allowed WFP’s request.

It was learnt that more than thirty individuals and humanitarian personnel will be on board the flight.
