Bureau finalizes preparations to benefit 123,000 people via safety net program

The Addis Ababa city administration micro and small enterprises development bureau says it has finalized preparations to make benefit about 123, 000 residents of Addis Ababa through productive urban safety net program.         

Head of the bureau, Leulseged Yefru told WMC that the bureau is exerting efforts to support about 123,000 poorest segment of the people in 35 selected weredas  in  Addis  Ababa city.     

According to Luelseged, the bureau has targeted to involve 103,000   beneficiaries through public development activities and about 19, 827 people via direct support program in order to improve their livelihood.

So far, the bureau has organized about 684 one to thirty groupings to realize the direct support program for people that cannot engaged in any type of activities, he stated.

In addition, the bureau has organized 6, 434  one to  five  groupings   to involve  the people  in  public  development  activities  ,  he reiterated.               

Leulseged noted that one beneficiary  of  the  direct  support  program gain  170  birr  payment  per each month and resident  selected to be involved  in the public development expected to  engaged in the greening,  infrastructure development , sanitary and water shed development activities targeted to earn their income.      

The productive urban safety net program expected to implement in the next five years  with a total  cost of  450 mln USD , in which  the government of Ethiopia allocated 150 mln USD and the rest 300 mln USD is covered by  World Bank loan.
