Government devalues Birr against foreign currencies

The decision the government made to devaluate birr against foreign currencies will be effective beginning from 10 Oct.2017, the National bank said in a statement.

The devaluation is 15 percent against all foreign currencies including USD.

The lowest interest rate of the bank is up to 7 percent from 5 percent.

The essence of the devaluation is meant to improve the competence of export trade and boot the national saving.
