Ministry says Ethiopia loses 14 bln birr in tax evasion

The Ethiopian Ministry of Revenue announced that Ethiopia has lost 14 billion birr in tax evasion in which 135 companies involved.

According to Minister Adanech Abebe, out of the 135 companies, which are accused of alleged tax fraud, 78 companies are put under control by tax intelligence department.

The measure took a  hundred days operation, she said.

She added that the remaining 57 companies are accused after the tax audit proved that they involved in fraudulence.

She said that 105 individuals, whom the police believe involved  in fraud are arrested in an operation assisted by the people.

According to her, the government is stepping up the effort of collecting evaded money in that the poor taxation service was part of the problem, as it made tax payers to retreat from paying.
