GERD construction hurdles resolve, reaches 67 percent

Challenges that have been in the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) are said resolved and the average construction of different parts of the dam has now reached 67 percent.

Members of the domestic media houses are visiting the construction site with the invitation the dam construction coordination office.

Deputy head of the dam construction project, Ephrem Woldekidan, told journalists that the obstacles faced recently in the construction process are now resolved and the construction of different parts is being more facilitated.

The electro-mechanical works, which previously were contracted to the Metec (Metal and Engineering Corporation) are contracted to five internationally renowned companies, he noted.

The civil works that are being undertaken by Salini have reached 84 percent but the electro-mechanical works are only 28 percent.

The visit by journalists is aimed at clearing dilemmas created within the public recently in relation to the dam construction status by showing them physically at the site, the office noted.
