ANDM 35th anniversary celebration has created mutual understanding, strong mobilization- Chairman

Addis Ababa, 30 November 2015 (WIC) – The celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) in a series of events during the past two months has created mutual understanding and strong public mobilization, party chairman said.

According to Chairman of the Party and the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Demeke Mekonen, celebration of the party’s 35th anniversary in a series of events including panel discussions has created a strong mutual understanding and social mobilization to the effort of ensuring renaissance of the country.

Speaking at the closing event of the party’s anniversary celebration, held at the Millennium Hall yesterday, Demeke said that celebration has created a fertile ground to renew citizens’ commitment to discharge their responsibility and implement the goals enshrined in the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II).

The DPM called up on citizens to strengthen the value of democratic nationalism and play their part in accelerating the development endeavor of the country.

President of the Amhara Region and Vice Chairman of the party, Gedu Andargachew, reminded the hard times the Amhara people have been through and noted that the region is recovering from the agony of past dictatorship and suppression.  The Amhara people have started to test the fruits of development thanks to the sacrifices paid by ANDM and its affiliates, he remarked.

The vice chairman said that prior to the coming to power of ANDM, the region’s infrastructure was very poor but it is developing by leaps and bound since the last couple of decades.

The coordinator of the events outside the region and member of the ANDM executive committee, Kassa Teklebirhan, on his part said that celebration of the day has created an opportunity for public discourse among residents of the region and those living outside on issues of national significance in addition to commemorating the martyrs’ historic deeds and ANDM’s struggle path.

Kassa called up on citizens to implement the oath they have made during the course of celebrating the party’s anniversary and fight corruption, ensure good governance and attain Ethiopian renaissance. In doing that, the new generation has to write a new chapter of history, he said.
